What's New on IONAGE Nexus: Parking Fee, Roles & Permissions, and Time-of-Day Tariffs

New features. More control. Smarter charging operations.

Managing an EV charging network involves more than keeping chargers operational. From ensuring chargers are available for the next user to managing team access and setting the right tariffs, every detail matters.

With the latest updates to IONAGE Nexus, Charge Point Operators (CPOs) now have more control over these everyday operations.

Let's take a closer look at what's new.

1. Parking Fee with Grace Period: Make Every Charging Spot Count

A charging session may be complete, but what happens when the vehicle remains plugged in?

For CPOs, this can mean longer waiting times for other EV users and missed opportunities to earn revenue from new charging sessions.

To address this, we've introduced Parking Fee with Grace Period on IONAGE Nexus.

What's new?

CPOs can now set a per-minute parking fee for vehicles that remain plugged in after charging is complete.

The feature includes:

  • Flexible grace period: Set a grace period between 10 and 60 minutes.
  • Customizable parking fees: Define a per-minute fee for vehicles that remain connected beyond the grace period.
  • B2C and B2B support: Configure parking fees for public charging customers and fleets.
  • Easy management: Update parking fees and grace periods directly from the Nexus dashboard.

How does it work?

Parking fees are not charged during an active charging session.

Once charging ends, the grace period begins. If the vehicle remains plugged in after this period, the configured parking fee starts applying.

To configure: Navigate to Nexus Dashboard → Tariffs and create or edit a tariff to set the parking fee and grace period.

A practical example

Imagine a charging station where vehicles regularly remain plugged in after charging.

The CPO can set a 15-minute grace period, allowing drivers enough time to unplug. If a vehicle stays connected beyond that period, a per-minute parking fee applies.

This encourages users to free up chargers sooner while giving CPOs an additional way to earn revenue from extended occupancy.

2. Roles & Permissions: Give Your Team the Right Access

As charging networks grow, so do the teams managing them.

Your operations team, accounting team, and franchise partners may all need access to the CMS dashboard, but not necessarily to the same information or functions.

The updated Roles & Permissions feature helps CPOs manage who can access what.

What's improved?

IONAGE Nexus now supports seven user roles:

  1. Owner: Account-level management and control.
  2. Admin: User management and administrative access.
  3. Operations: Network operations with configurable station-level access.
  4. Accounting: Access to relevant accounting functions.
  5. Marketing: Access to relevant marketing functions.
  6. Customer Support: Access to customer support functions.
  7. Franchise Owner: View-only access to assigned franchise stations.

The previous Basic role has also been removed, with existing Basic users automatically moved to Operations.

How does it work?

Navigate to Nexus Dashboard → Manage Users to add users, assign roles, and manage access based on their responsibilities.

Owners and Admins can manage user roles through the dashboard.

A practical example

A CPO managing charging stations across multiple locations can give franchise partners access to view their assigned stations without allowing them to edit network-wide settings.

This keeps relevant information accessible while maintaining control over operations.

3. Time-of-Day Tariffs for Fleets: Set Pricing Based on Charging Hours

Not every hour sees the same charging demand.

Some charging stations experience higher demand during the day, while others have more available capacity at night.

With the updated Time-of-Day (ToD) Tariff feature, CPOs can now manage time-based charging prices for all fleets through IONAGE Nexus.

What's improved?

CPOs can:

  • Set different charging tariffs for peak and off-peak hours.
  • Encourage fleet charging during lower-demand periods.
  • Adjust pricing according to charging demand.
  • Manage fleet ToD tariffs directly from the CMS dashboard.

How does it work?

CPOs can configure tariffs for specific time periods under Nexus Dashboard → Tariffs.

These tariffs allow charging prices to vary depending on the time of day.

A practical example

Consider a fleet charging location with low charger usage during late-night hours.

The CPO can offer lower tariffs during these hours to encourage fleet charging when demand is low, while setting higher tariffs during peak periods.

This provides greater pricing flexibility and helps distribute charging demand more efficiently.

More Control Over Your Charging Network with IONAGE Nexus

Each of these updates addresses a different part of managing an EV charging network.

Parking Fee with Grace Period helps improve charger availability and creates an additional revenue opportunity.

Roles & Permissions makes it easier to manage team responsibilities and control dashboard access.

Time-of-Day Tariffs gives CPOs more flexibility to manage fleet charging prices based on demand.

Together, these updates help CPOs manage their charging operations more effectively through a single platform.

As the world shifts gears toward a more sustainable future, the way we drive is changing—fast.  Are you in the market for an EV? In your research, you might have come across different EV and Hybrid technologies from various manufacturers. Was it confusing or complex? We are here to de-mystify and help in your decision.
‍
No worries—we’re here to break it down! Let’s explore the key differences between Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Hybrid Vehicles, so you can make the right choice.

What is the deal with electric vehicles (EV’s)

Electric vehicles run purely on electricity and are powered by rechargeable batteries that run the electric motor. That’s it. Here are a few reasons that give EVs an unfair advantage:

  • Modern Design and Ownership: EVs have changed the fundamentals of the vehicle. You see a much more modern aesthetic and design for EVs. Additionally, this helps EV manufacturers develop innovative ways of ownership such as the MG Windsor.
  • Lower Running Costs: The charge per kilometer for EVs is much lower than running on gas. Also, fewer running parts mean lesser maintenance.
  • Eco-Friendly: With zero emissions, EVs are cleaner and quieter than traditional cars, contributing to reduced pollution and better air quality. Good for the planet, good for your lungs!

But it’s not all sunshine and supercharging. EVs do have some limits, especially when it comes to range. Currently, You’ll need to plan ahead if you’re going on a long road trip, but hey—that’s what apps and fast chargers are for! Then there is the question of batteries.

The Hybrid Vehicle: Best of Both Worlds?

If you're not ready to go fully electric yet, the next available option is a hybrid Vehicle. A hybrid vehicle uses a combination of gasoline and electric power to drive the vehicle. Hybrid technologies are considered a great intermediate step before the grand march toward a fully EV world. This makes them easy to recommend.

Here’s why a Hybrid Vehicle might be considered:

  • Better Fuel Efficiency: Since hybrids can use electricity to supplement gasoline, they use less fuel overall—making them more efficient than traditional gas-powered cars.
  • Extended Range: Worried about running out of charge? Hybrids still have gasoline backup, so you can go the distance without range anxiety.
  • Familiarity: between EV and ICE, Hybrids feel like traditional fuel-powered cars but add a sustainable twist. It's just like an extension of an ICE.

Before pegging on the Hybrid Vehicle, consider the following.

  • Space and Design: Hybrid Vehicles need to have batteries as well as a combustion engine. This greatly reduces space efficiency. Big boxes for the next adventure would be difficult to fit. They are also not as quiet as EVs. The design tends to be closer to traditional automotive without the advantages of the modern EV experience.

Still, for those who aren’t ready to take the full EV plunge, hybrids offer a solid first step.

Which One Should You Choose?

Ultimately, deciding between an EV and a Hybrid Vehicle comes down to your lifestyle and driving needs.

  • If you’re all about cutting emissions and want the latest tech with the lowest environmental impact, go electric. You’ll be doing your part to keep the planet green while enjoying cutting-edge innovation.
  • If you’re not ready to give up the flexibility of gasoline but still want to reduce your carbon footprint, a hybrid might be the perfect compromise.

At Ionage Technologies, we believe in the power of choice—because there’s no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to sustainable driving. Whether you choose a full EV or a hybrid, both options represent a step toward a cleaner, smarter future.

Wrapping it up: the road ahead

As EV charging infrastructure grows and technology improves, the gap between electric and hybrid vehicles is closing fast. More people are embracing electric mobility, and the future looks bright. Whichever path you choose, it’s clear that sustainable mobility is the destination.
