A Battery Management System (BMS) is an integrated hardware and software system that monitors, protects, and optimizes an electric vehicle (EV) battery pack, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operation.
The BMS continuously tracks critical parameters such as voltage, current, temperature, state of charge (SoC), and state of health (SoH) to maintain optimal battery performance. It manages cell balancing to ensure uniform energy distribution across battery cells, while preventing overcharging, deep discharging, overheating, and short circuits, which can impact battery life and safety.
In addition, the BMS communicates with the vehicle control unit and EV charging system to regulate charging speed, optimize energy usage, and improve overall charging efficiency. It also enables real-time monitoring and diagnostics, helping detect potential issues early and ensuring stable battery operation.
