Kilowatt (kW)

A kilowatt (kW) is a unit of power that measures how fast energy is being used or transferred. In the context of EV charging, it indicates the charging speed, how quickly electricity is delivered to the vehicle’s battery.

For example, a charger with a higher kW rating can deliver more power in a shorter amount of time, resulting in faster charging. Conversely, a lower kW charger will take longer to charge the same vehicle.

Power (kW) is different from energy (kWh). While kW tells you the rate at which energy is being used, kWh tells you how much total energy has been consumed over time. In simple terms, kW is about speed, and kWh is about quantity.
